Grant Helps Fund the Provision of Nutritious Meals for Street Homeless Served at the Day Center

Simply Healthcare, a leading managed care company for people enrolled in Medicaid and Medicare programs in the state of Florida, generously awarded a $100,000 grant to Camillus House to help its Day Center provide meals for the street homeless in Miami-Dade County. The Day Center provided over 20,000 meals last year as well as other services.

“Camillus House is very grateful to the Simply Healthcare Foundation for their outstanding gift to our Day Center, which is the only one serving the homeless in Miami-Dade County,” said Camillus House CEO Hilda M. Fernandez. She added, “Their generosity will help to provide nourishing food for up to 100 street homeless every weekday, many of whom are in line before 6:00 a.m., eagerly awaiting a good meal and the other services.” The additional services include access to showers, clean clothing, and their mail.

The goal for every person served at the Day Center is to help them transition from homelessness into housing. Services are offered at the main Norwegian Cruise Line campus of Camillus House, located at 1603 NW 7th Avenue, Miami, FL, 33136. Individuals served are primarily from Miami-Dade County; however, all those seeking support that meet the intake requirements are served.
