Funds to be used to help homeless men and women struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues.

Camillus House has been awarded a generous $100,000 grant from the Simply Healthcare Foundation to support the ongoing operation of its Institute of Success and Personal Achievement (ISPA) Program. Through ISPA treatment programs, Camillus addresses homelessness and the underlying issues of mental health and substance abuse. To celebrate this wonderful gift, leadership from the Simply Healthcare Foundation joined Camillus House for a formal check presentation and day of service.

“Camillus House is truly grateful to the Simply Healthcare Foundation for their generous gift,” explained Hilda M. Fernandez, CEO of Camillus House. “With the prevalence of mental health illnesses amongst the homeless population and the increasingly dangerous Opioid epidemic, Camillus is thankful for the opportunity to partner with the Simply Healthcare Foundation to help our brothers and sisters in need.”

The goal of all ISPA services is to improve the lives of persons who are homeless and suffering from mental health, substance abuse and/or co-occurring disorders while guiding them toward living stable and self-sufficient lives. ISPA incorporates self-help philosophies with clinical expertise, providing treatment through a combination of individual and group therapy, work training, and social skill building activities. Recognizing that treatment must be tailored to the individual needs of the client, ISPA staff strives to provide multiple approaches and modalities rather than just one program model. Program components include outreach, case management, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while utilizing Evidence Based Practices (EBP).

Throughout treatment, participants are taught to develop a network of support systems through re-established family connections, therapy groups, a structured living environment, and referrals to external services providers, as needed. Clients are provided with a full array of case management, counseling, and psychiatric services including a thorough discharge plan aimed at reducing recidivism. While enrolled in ISPA, clients are encouraged to obtain employment, laying the foundation for a structured lifestyle conducive to their long-term sobriety and success.

“Simply Healthcare has a long-standing commitment to supporting our Medicaid consumers through partnerships that can help address key social determinants of health, such as homelessness, and economic disparities,” said Lourdes Rivas, Simply Healthcare plan president. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with such a tremendous partner on this program and look forward to seeing how these services improve the long-term well-being of our consumers.”

Through this vital partnership, Camillus will positively affect the homeless populations’ health and wellbeing, thus improving the community at large. Camillus House is thrilled to work alongside the Simply Healthcare Foundation to help move the needle on this critical issue.
