Camillus House Celebrates 46th Thanksgiving Day

Brother Bil Osmanski and Dr. Paul Ahr, President of Camillus House accept a gift supporting this event from Ocean Bank representatives Tony Cabrera and Luis Consuegra.

This past November Camillus House celebrated Thanksgiving Day by serving more than a 1,000 meals at its downtown Miami location. This year marked the 46th year Camillus House has served the traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pies to individuals and families in Miami who are poor and homeless.

Preparations for the huge feast began days before, with our chefs bringing more than 200 turkeys to the Hyatt Regency at the Miami Convention Center for roasting, since the Camillus facilities are too small to accommodate the large number of turkeys needed.

More than 150 volunteers helped to prepare and serve the Thanksgiving Dinner. Shifts began the night prior to the event with volunteers from Carnival Cruise Lines preparing the food. They worked well into the evening carving the roasted turkeys for the big day.

This important event would not have been possible without the support of Ocean Bank and Gallagher Financial Systems. Ocean Bank has been a long-time supporter of Camillus House and the mission of the Brothers of the Good Shepherd. They’ve sponsored Camillus’ Thanksgiving feast for close to a decade.
