Phase One

Phase One begins the intensive treatment program. Clients participate in treatment four hours per day, five days per week. The goals of this phase are for clients to understand the bio-psychosocial aspects of addiction, to become active in outside self-help meetings, and to continue to develop coping skills. Again, self-help, cognitive behavioral, and motivational therapies are utilized. Gestalt and art therapies are also introduced in this phase. Group therapy is the primary modality, and individual sessions and staff teaming are utilized when indicated.

The “Family Group” component is introduced during this phase, helping clients re-establish family ties and develop a support network for when they complete the program. Adult Basic Education and Life Skills Classes also begin. Clients are now able to test the waters by going out on their free time unaccompanied. Relapse prevention is addressed, and a customized relapse track is an integral component in helping those clients who do relapse to work with counselors to find a way to continue their treatment. This Phase lasts two-three months.
