What Does Volunteering at Camillus House Have to Offer?

Please Read Requirements to Volunteer at Camillus House

Camillus House volunteers are diverse in every way. They are multi-cultural, multi-lingual; they are students, teachers, attorneys, retired professionals, homemakers, clergy and performers to name a few.
Camillus House offers a wide range of on-going and project-related assignments. Some people volunteer every week and some volunteer for special projects or events only. Some volunteers can only commit to a few months. There are volunteer opportunities to fit your interest.

Here is a small sampling of our volunteer opportunities:

ο   Help prepare and/or serve food to individuals who are poor and homeless.
ο   Host a food drive or other fundraising drive.
ο   Provide business consultative services.
ο   Help organize a special event.

Individual Volunteering

Every year, close to 1,500 volunteers donate their time to Camillus House. With an average of 1,000 hours served per month, volunteers perform crucial tasks for the organization allowing Camillus to fulfill our mission of providing direct services of food, clothing, shelter, addiction counseling, and health care to persons who are poor and homeless in South Florida.

If you would like to volunteer at Camillus House, contact Maria Alejandra Peralta, Community Relations Manager, 305.374.1065, ext. 438, or to get the most up-to-date information about volunteering, dial toll-free 877.642.7970, or fax toll-free 866.829.9183, or email mariap@camillus.org.

Please keep in mind our dress code requires all volunteers to be wearing closed shoes, long pants and a loose fitting t-shirt with sleeves (no tank tops or muscle shirts).

There is a parking facility located next to Camillus House (unfortunately we cannot validate parking), and metered spaces along 8th street.

Group Volunteering

Groups, clubs or organizations can coordinate a special one-time or ongoing service project with us as well.

See how some groups are helping at Camillus House!

Almost every day, groups ranging in size from 3 to 12 members assist us in the Camillus Kitchen serving the daily meal. Not only does it allow us to serve quickly hundreds of hot meals in a two-hour timeframe, but it's also a fabulous bonding experience for the participants.

Occasionally, we have special events which call for many additional volunteers other than what we normally would have available. Or perhaps you belong to a performance group we could call on for a special program for our clients.

One of the most effective means of involving your group is to have us first come to speak at one of your meetings, then hold a collections drive, and bring the items with you for the service project.
